... love distractions? Riley had finally successfully finished unpacking whatever she owned into the drawers that had been pointed out to her and had even been given a little tour by one of the people she could only assume worked here as a teacher. She'd missed those little details when walking around.
There was still a buzz lingering in her system (not drugs, thank you) whether that was because she was out somewhere and parent free or just the promise of a huge house for her to exlore... *shrug* ...and so all thoughts of her parents and calling them to let them know she'd arrived just flew out of the window. This house was massively cool and Riley's eyes widened when her hazel eyes fell on a room with games and a tv and oh the possibilities!
'Yay' Riley grinned to herself and charged forward and attached herself straight to one of the soccertables, "Who's up for a game?" Ry called out.

Alex walked into the rec. room and sat down on the couch.
Who was that girl?
He grabbed for the remote and turned on the TV. There wasn't anything good on so he turned it back off and layed back.

"So that's a no?" Riley pouted to herself before releasing her grip on the soccer game. All these games and there was no one hogging them or...or...where was everyone? Her eyes scanned the room, only noticing one extra person close by the TV, no extra sounds, no extra faces. This was very strange. "Hey, hi!" As casually as she could manage, Riley leaned over the back of the couch and peered down at the horizontal figure, a smile slowly forming on her face. "I'm Ry..Riley. Who're you? " she asked the older looking boy.

Alex looked up and saw a younger girl, maybe around 13 years old. She was smiling at him for some wird reason.
"Uh... hi," he said dully, "I'm Alex. Nice to meet ya' Riley..."
... I guess.
He shifted a little to his right and sat up straight. He turned around to face her and she was still smiling.
Oh no... A happy person.

The monotone reply made the boys mood obvious and her ready almost bubbly smile inappropriate and uncomfortable. "Erm, yeah, thanks." Her smile twisted into a half grin and she continued to peer down at the boy from over the back of the couch. Riley figured it was just his regular teen mood, she'd seen quite a few like that and knew it would be happening to her soon. God forbid. "So erm, what do you do Alex? " She asked slowly

"I can do just about anything with any type of water," Alex said, starting to stand up, "What about you? What can you do?"

"Anything with water? That sounds so cool." Riley beamed at him, then remembered that he wasn't in the smiley mood, straightened her face. "I am able to change into animals, or animal pieces." She nodded to herself "It looks too strange sometimes though, having just a beak on my face or whatever. I don't know what that will grow to." Riley shrugged.
Considering she'd only been here a few days there was still quite a bit of the house and a lot of the people in it that she didn't know...too much for her liking. "So when'd you get here?" Riley asked yet another question, anything to prevent boredom.

Alex downed his head then raised it up again, looking straight into Riley's eyes.
"I was raised here since I was a baby," he said, "My parents hated me so much they left me on the side of the highway."

Uh oh, why did she get the feeling that her slightly nosy nature was about to get her to put her foot in it? "I didn't mean to ask that, you didn't have to tell me." Riley frowned "If that happens again tell me to shut up, k?" When she was sure that he wasn't about to add anything about his history and she wouldn't interrupt.
"My parents, wow, they totally freaked when they found out, but then it happened at the worst time. They carted me out of the neighbourhood to save their reputation and they've seperated." she shrugged. "I was raised here since I was a baby," "So then you know the place pretty well?" Riley asked "Do you think you would be uber nice and help me get around later? I would hate to get lost in this place."

"Oh...It doesn't have to be now, I don't wanna interrupt your lazy day, everyone needs those." Riley raised her hands up in defence, "Just, you know, probably tomorrow or something. Hey, is there something worth watching on TV?"

"No," Alex said lazily, "There isn't anything on TV at all today. I hate it when that happens. It must be Friday."

"So Fridays mean nothing on TV?" Riley repeated quietly. "I wouldn't know, usually I went out to the movies with my friends every Friday, don't you, I mean you have friends here don't you...you've lived here pretty much all of your life..." Riley paused to check his expression and to make sure she wasn't putting her foot in her mouth. "Don't you get out of this huge house whenever you can? Where do you go?"

"Unlike most of the kids here," Alex started, "I'm not allowed to leave. Xavier says I'm too unpredictable and unable to completely control my temper. He keeps me on mood pills so I stay calm all the time."
Alex sat back down and stared at the cieling. He knew Riley didn't want to seem intrusive at all. That's why she carefully chose her words.
"Which means," Alex started, "That no matter what you say, I'll never be furious."
